Task-list for pre-trip

When you are about to relocate and you are wondering: Can this be done in a wise way? Unless you love dusting and cleaning, preparing your next move isn’t going to be all that fun, and smart home owners and renters know they shouldn’t do it alone. Moving the items all alone can be overwhelming: you feel you have to do everything yourself. To a large extent, the owners/renters do have to do many things themselves-like planning and scheduling. Although most owners don’t want to hire a moving company for a short distance move and can barely justify the expense of such services, there is little reason not to write down a to-do list of what works best for them. Before you jump ahead to read the steps below, remember these two things: After you have prepared the task-list once, it’s very easy to update them. Second- and more important- keep track of the budget at every step.

Clearly define the things you want to pack: Whether long or short list is up to you, but it’s best to overestimate the quantity of things you will need for your future place. Whichever way you choose to keep your items, it helps to do it the old-fashioned way-moving boxes, so you know where those items are when you unpack. These boxes can be bought at any home supply stores or you can ask the movers beforehand. However, define what you will be asking the movers to do.
Is it one hour quick relocation or ten hours behind the wheel? Will the movers need special equipment or a large truck to move your vehicles if any? Should they need to take extra care of the fragile items in your storage? These are all questions that potential movers will ask of you, so you need to be ready to answer them.

Clean up the place : You have probably cleaned the current place several times before, but this time you will need to treat it seriously in order to avoid cleaning fees. The good news is that it can be done with little or no money if you are prepared with the right cleaning equipment.

Disconnect all Services: It’s okay to disconnect all the utilities once and for all, but keep it in the back of your mind and on the list that you will need some eventually. Whatever it is, write it down.

Select your moving company: Show them the list of your items you created so they can give you an accurate idea of cost. What your house or business is throwing away, can be put to good use by the movers or better yet, they will pay for the items in return.

Treat your time and the movers’ time as precious: Your movers might have another appointment elsewhere, so you know how busy they can be. If you told them that serving you required two hours altogether, don’t chew up extra two hours of their time, since they committed two hours, not four. It makes little sense to have 5 movers for a single bedroom apartment move-you don’t need the same table moved 5 times.
